Remember the agonizing time spent in line to enter the Magic Kingdom? Weary legs, freezing cold, frying heat or wet weather would not avert your position in line. The anticipation of entering the kingdom is filled with awe, wonder and mystery with the promise of leaving life’s cares and woes outside the gate. Now, imagine a scenario where Walt Disney’s son walks up to a loved one and ushers them to the head of the line. The response from the crowd standing in line are less than enthusiastic about the favoritism being bestowed upon the one getting to take cuts. In fact, their internal Kindergarten instincts kick in with whining complaints that “it’s not fair”. But Walt’s son seems oblivious to the grumbling or pleas to be chosen with such honor. He simply smiles and encourages onlookers to wait their turn, because it will be worth the wait.
From the perspective of the loved one being ushered in ahead of his family and friends, emotions
are mixed. There’s a bit of anxiety leaving behind the familiar and walking into the unknown,
but there’s also an air of excitement and expectation. You’ve heard so many good things about
the Kingdom and have anticipated this day for years. Knowing you’ll soon be joined with those left
in line is a comforting thought, but even those thoughts fade as you enter the grandeur of the
Kingdom. Every cell in your body is enthralled with the beauty, majesty and splendor beyond
description. The streets are filled with joy and laughter. Your heart is filled with a strange sense
that this is where you’ve belonged your whole life. The hardship of standing in line is hardly
a consideration now that you’ve experienced Kingdom life.
From what perspective are you viewing the Kingdom of God? Is it from being in line or the one
being invited up to the front? Does the idea of taking cuts excite you or cause you to fear?
Let’s be clear. Taking cuts isn’t up to you or me. Taking cuts without the invitation from the Son
is an unwelcome and selfish act unappreciated by those in line and to the King. Since every
Kingdom-minded person is guaranteed entrance, I propose we patiently wait our turn. And if the
Son ushers our loved one up front, may we graciously let them go.
As the apostle Paul said so well, To live is Christ, getting to take cuts is gain….
or something to that effect.
